 HABITAT CONSERVATION

Conservation biologists have documented the critical habitat lost through fragmentation and other anthropogenic activities. Either in wooded or open areas, wildlife habitat is a principal victim of sprawl, once thought to be "high, dry and developable". Now, through the development of plans like New Jersey's Wildlife Action Plan, authorized under the Endangered Species Act, organizations around the country are recognizing the importance of maintaining contiguous habitats and critical linkages.
As the 21st Century unfolds, a new land ethic is taking hold and recognizing the multi-tasking capabilities of our landscape and its particular suitability for both built and natural places. Ecosystem services provided by undeveloped wild lands are increasingly being quantified to demonstrate that much more is lost to sprawling development than just the picturesque.
Banisch Associates, Inc. helps communities integrate habitat conservation through an enlightened land use planning process, recognizing that the quality of your environment is inextricably linked to that of your neighbor. Protecting valuable habitat helps to maintain a high environmental quality for all of Earth's creatures.
